Today sees the launch of the Bath Historical Directories website. Containing a quarter of a million entries from 1846 to 1935, open to all who are interested in exploring Bath's people, places, organisations and occupations over this period.
A new search tool has been added to the Proceedings/Newsletters Page of the website. We hope that this will be the first of many such tools aimed to make documents more accessible.
A panel portrait of Henry VIII was given to the Victoria Art Gallery in 1916 by Captain Frederick Henry Huth (1844-1918). This portrait of Henry VIII was derived from Holbein the Younger’s group portrait of Henry, his parents and his wife Jane Seymour. At the request of the Keeper of Collections, FOVAG funded infra-red and dendrochronological examinations of the picture and the results suggest that the picture is much older than previously supposed.
