Synopsis:
Bath's population appears to have dropped between 1851 to 1900, however, this does not take account of the significant growth that took place in suburban areas outside the official city boundaries. The largest of these was Oldfield Park, with new housing for almost 10,500 people, many employed in a growing industrial base within the city. Bath turned from a spa town into a city with considerable manufacturing activity, Oldfield Park housed a significant proportion of the workers required for the developing industries.
